Workshop title: Spreading the geography word

Workshop abstract: The workshop will provide a brief background to the development of the Australian Curriculum: Geography and explore a range of approaches to professional learning to support the implementation of the curriculum. A professional learning program has been designed and trialled by AGTA to introduce and implement the curriculum across Australia. The workshop will provide the opportunity to share and discuss the following aspects of the developed Australian Curriculum: Geography professional learning program:

  • the nature and perception of modern geography
  • the rationale and structure of the curriculum
  • ways of geographical thinking
  • using ICT’s in geography
  • working with the Achievement Standards
  • strategies for developing a teaching program
  • resources available to support the teaching of the curriculum
Integrated into the workshop will be the use of AGTA’s GeogSpace on-line resource to support the Australian Curriculum: Geography (http://www.geogspace.edu.au).
