AGTA 2015 Conference workshop abstract
Presenter: Susan Martin
Workshop title: The river. The city. Together again
Workshop abstract: A fieldwork inquiry is at the heart of the Australian Geography Curriculum. This workshop presents a successful example of a sustainability project. The theme is a new inner city re-development plan Elizabeth Quay, in Perth, Western Australia. Students use tablets, GoPro, smart phones and cameras to record the data. Teamwork planning is an essential part of the ‘field experience’. Many geographical skills; interpretation of maps, field sketches, photograph annotation, use of current newspaper reports and primary data analysis are part of the final students report, used as an assessment task. The long term aim is to keep an archive to study change over time especially using panoramas. Embedded in the student project are the 4 main concepts of place, interconnection, environment and especially, change. This example could be transferred to any fieldwork project. The cross curricular aspects of sustainability and Aboriginal spirituality are essential components of this fieldwork inquiry.
All conference registrations and payments are being handled by Group Events.
