AGTA Conference, 11–16 January 2015
AGTA 2015 Conference workshop abstract
Presenter: Lorraine Chaffer
Workshop title: Approaches to teaching "Places and Liveability"
Workshop abstract: Liveability is a human construct and it is not new. When we make judgements about places e.g. “I couldn’t live in this street”, “I wouldn’t mind living in this suburb” or “I wish there was a coffee shop close by” - we are assessing livability – we have just never called it that before. Familiarise you with the basic Content Descriptors from the Australian Curriculum: Geography and start thinking. The options are unlimited and the challenge is to be creative.
Focus questions
include
• How can I present this unit of work in a way that engages students who are only 12 or 13 years of age?
• How can I use the Inquiry Process and ICT to promote higher order thinking about the liveability of places at a variety of scales, including the use of fieldwork?
All conference registrations and payments are being handled by Group Events.
