Call for presenters

You are invited to be a presenter at the Australian Geography Teachers Association (AGTA) bi-annual conference in January 2011

The four day event is to be held at Scotch College in Adelaide between 10-13 January 2011. Australasian Geography teachers and academics are invited to the conference to participate in a stimulating education program of presentations, hands on workshops and field trips. The conference in 2011 is particularly opportune considering that 2011 is the preparation year for the new National Geography Curriculum, which is due for implementation in 2012. We anticipate an unprecedented attendance at the conference in response to the need for professional learning as a result of the requirements of the new K-12 National Geography Curriculum. Workshops will be on Monday 10th and Thursday 13th January 2011.

The focus of the Keynote speakers and workshops is on Geography Education and should be related to the implementation of the National Curriculum. We would like submissions to be classroom focused.

Bring along to share your Best Geography Lesson or a model of Good Classroom Practice. We welcome Primary School teachers who would like to share how they might deal with some of the issues of implementation K-7 of the National Curriculum.

Presentation Guidelines

  • Only one abstract to be submitted by the presenter/s, co-authors
  • The title may not exceed 10 words
  • The abstract may not be longer than 150 words
  • Do not use bullet points, numbering, or all capital letters; the information you enter is to used for publishing purposes (e.g., Web site, Program booklet, CD-ROM)
  • The workshop is to be one hour long
  • Presenters must be willing to provide materials used in the workshop for a post Conference publication, DVD, or be placed on the AGTA website
  • As Scotch is a laptop school there are no PC computer lab facilities available on site, however some maybe available in other schools nearby, but this is by no means certain – try to tailor your workshop accordingly. Only 1 EWB is available
  • We would like to retain the Conference all on one site
  • All workshop rooms have data projector access
  • Presenters to bring their own laptop.

Note: We are expecting a large number of workshops and there are a limited number of presentation slots available. This is because there are two days of fieldwork involved so workshops will be confined to two days, Monday and Thursday. Initially one workshop only will be available for presenters. Once the program is developed and approved some presenters may be asked to repeat their session.

Presenters will be given a reduced registration for their day of presentation. More details on final registration.

Due date for submissions Thursday 31st May 2010. Full Conference program available June 2010.
